Whether as a volunteer, annual contributor, or corporate sponsor, there is a place for you in the Lexington Philharmonic family. You and your donations allow us to achieve our goals of musical artistry, community development, and fiscal security. There are many ways you can get involved with the Philharmonic and help support over 150 musical activities annually in central and eastern Kentucky.
We appreciate all of our volunteers for the time and effort that they devote to the Lexington Philharmonic and offer a complimentary ticket for each complete event in which you help!
The following volunteer opportunities are already available for the 2009-2010 season. Sign up today!
Family Concerts
The Lexington Philharmonic puts on themed family concerts each year. These events require a large number of volunteers because of the varied activities available to children in the lobby before each concert. Family Concert volunteers need to enjoy interacting with children, be enthusiastic, and (in some cases) like to get a little messy! Volunteers may be asked to help with:
- Instrument Petting Zoo: These demonstrations allow children to explore the different instruments in the orchestra. Although most musicians find this position particularly appealing, no musical knowledge is necessary.
- Activities: Volunteers may be asked to supervise children while they participate in games and crafts that relate to the theme of each concert.
Volunteers should be available from 1:00pm-4:00pm on concert days.
Dates:
- Sunday, October 24, 2010: Play Ball!
- Sunday, December 12, 2010: Candy Cane Concert
- Sunday, March 20, 2011: Appalachian Style!
Peanut Butter & Jelly Concerts
These concerts are a great way for children to experience the fun, interactive side of music while chowing down on tasty peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. PB&J volunteers may be asked to:
- Assist kids in making PB&J Sandwiches
- Help kids play the instruments at the Instrument Petting Zoo
- Set-up and take-down at events
Volunteers should be available from 9:00am-12:30pm on concert days.
Dates:
- September 18, 2010
- November 6, 2010
- January 8, 2011
- March 5, 2010
- April 30, 2010
Discovery Series
These KERA-based educational concerts are great daytime events designed to introduce classical music as a learning tool. The general public as well as school, civic, homeschool, and senior groups are welcome.
Volunteers are needed from 9:00am-1:00pm on Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at the Singletary Center for the Arts. Volunteers need to be friendly and approachable, and may be asked to usher student/school groups, hand out programs, assist with check-in, or help general organization.
